Potenza (ZIP code 85100) is the Chief Town of the homonymous province.

After the national census made in 2001 the population was 69.060 inhabitants, thus showing during the years 1991 - 2001 a percentual variation of 5,09% inhabitants.
The inhabitants are distributed in 22.355 families with an average of 3,09 people per family.
The place: The territory of the municipality lies between 584 and 1.350 metres above sea level.
The altimetric spawn is thus of 766 metres.

There are 1.902 service firms employing 3.332 people that are the 13,82% of the total of the workers. There are also 2.053 firms employing 7.387 people that are the 30,64% of the total of the workers. There are also 532 administrative offices emplying 8.951 workers that are the 37,13% of the total of the workers.
There is a total of 24.110 workers, that are the 34,91% of the inhabitants of the municipality.
